Annie in cerulean and pinstripes

I was just talking about 2000s nostalgia in the previous post about Lindsay Lohan and the imminent release of Freakier Friday and this is how Anne Hathaway is kicking off the week, first with a post on TikTok early this morning as she was getting ready to start her day. 

Filming begins on The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York. And Anne’s not exactly keeping it a secret on TikTok:

This, remember, is how we see Andy Sachs at the beginning of the movie – brushing her teeth in a steamy mirror. The 2025 update to this is Annie brushing her teeth… in the “cerulean” sweater. Joanna, by the way, was in NYC this weekend and shared at our ETALK morning meeting that it’s also the not-so-code name for the movie which, obviously, is now filming. The set notices that have been posted all over the city that we often see on location refer to the movie as “Cerulean” which is not exactly hiding, IYKYK.

But Annie is not just teasing on TikTok, she also took it to Instagram with a shot from set to give us a sense of what Andy’s wardrobe looks like now. And, if this look is any indication, the fits are going to be so f-cking good. 

To me it looks like the waistcoat here is in two parts, right? There’s the top but the bottom finishes at the start of the pants. These are basically elevated barrels, in my opinion the best jeans fit of the last two years and pretty much exclusively the only fit I wear – I’m wearing barrel pants that I got in Japan while I’m typing this. 

Barrel cut has always been on trend in Japanese style but it seemed to really take off everywhere else late in 2023 and from my experience, it was the Free People mid-rise that popped off. I got my first pair at the end of 2023 after seeing them on our show stylist, Simone, loved them so much I got them in multiple washes, and then when Duana saw them on me, she got her own pair. 

From there it seemed like everyone was making barrels. And now the barrel trousers are coming for us in the fall. Annie’s specific set has not been identified yet, and probably wouldn’t be all that accessible yet to civilians. There will probably be a lot more options when we get closer to autumn but there are a few options out now and, obviously, I’ve spent all morning looking, LOL. 

There’s a pair of Alexander Wang on sale here and they’re currently in contention but I’m not sure they’re better than the two pairs that are fighting for top spot in my cart. 

I am trying to decide between these ones at Anthropologie which are barrel AND cargo, and very cute. But also these at Urban Outfitters because they come in multiple lengths which is perfect for a short girl like me. 

How long before Jennifer Aniston shows up in a barrel jean?
