Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller have been in New York promoting a new movie called The Gorge. Hadn’t really been paying attention to it until I saw all the sidewalk runway shots of Anya doing the talk show circuit. We’ll get to the fashion in a minute, let me just talk about this film because the trailer surprised me.
When I first looked into The Gorge, the prevailing descriptions were “horror”, “thriller”, “action”, “sci-fi”. Not really my kink. But since I’m always curious about Anya and her choices, I braced myself to watch the preview. And laughed 30 seconds later when instead of being scared, I’m like…
Is this horny?
The set up is horny! Almost K-drama horny in that the two leads are doing a lot of staring at each other from a distance while looking very pretty. There’s also a gratuitous shower scene where Miles gets to show off how ripped he is – this, too, is K-drama coded.
Obviously the romance turns into some scary sh-t towards the end of the trailer but the horny effect lingers. How did we get here? How did I go into this thing thinking it would be terrifying and end up setting a reminder to watch it when it comes out on Apple?! Why am I maybe a little bit attracted to Miles Teller?!
I guess this is why the movie is releasing on Valentine’s Day.
There better be kissing. I will be so f-cking pissed if all that gorge flirting does not result in a single kiss when they beat the devil or whatever it is that lives down there.
