Intro for March 13, 2026
Dear Gossips,
Happy Friday the 13th and a very spooky day to all who celebrate! Because this is a curséd day, we have feud news involving Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney.
Euphoria is coming back for a third season on April 12, and this week, HBO put a little teaser on Instagram featuring members of the cast behind the scenes:
Everyone noticed the obvious, Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, arguably the two biggest breakouts from the series—arguable on Sweeney’s part because Jacob Elordi bagged that Oscar nom and she did not—are not shown together in that admittedly very brief teaser. Zendaya is shown doing a photoshoot with Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow, while Sweeney is shown on her own. Page Six claims it’s a nothingburger because the photoshoot included in the teaser was done during production, and Sweeney was shooting a scene at the time of the photoshoot, thus her absence.
I believe it’s a nothingburger, but not because Sydney Sweeney was busy while the other women in the cast were doing a photoshoot. I believe it’s a nothingburger because I 100% believe Zendaya doesn’t f-ck with Sydney Sweeney and their shooting schedules for Euphoria season three probably reflect that. Like if Rue and Cassie have more than two scenes together—and I am stretching “together” to include large ensemble scenes—across season three, I will eat my hat.
This whole feud situation with Zendaya and Sweeney is giving Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi, or Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker. We’ve seen these TV feuds before. No one will ever admit to anything on the record, everyone will put a good face on it in public, and there will always be a perfectly reasonable excuse for why two high profile stars of a popular show never seem to interact with each other, on or off camera. It’s all very reasonable and “nothing to see here”, except for the huge plumes of smoke billowing our way every time they remotely cross paths.
So, yeah, I’m not surprised Sydney Sweeney isn’t in the group shot. I won’t be surprised if she and Zendaya barely interact during season three press. And I won’t be surprised if there is always a perfectly good reason that they always seem to be just missing each other.
But speaking of Kim Cattrall and Zendaya, yesterday I wrote about Z’s bridal-esque white cocktail dress at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards. Thank you to everyone who pointed it out—Z’s dress is by Eugene Alexander, and it was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City: The Movie, and is in turn a shortened version of a dress worn by Whitney Houston in the 1980s.
I fully admit SATC is a huge pop culture blind spot for me. We all have them, and this is one of mine. I just never got into SATC, I am definitely never going to notice someone wearing an even an iconic piece of clothing from that show. I think the only outfit I can comfortably identify from SATC is Carrie’s wedding dress, and that is specifically because I love Vivienne Westwood’s designs. Now, if and when Zendaya references The Nanny, we can talk. I can pick Fran Fine’s silhouette out of a darkened lineup. But Carrie Bradshaw? I literally do not know her. I choose to believe Zendaya was honoring Whitney, anyway.
