A Shrinking Sweatshirt
This is not the first time I’ve been asked about “Liz” from Shrinking. I do wonder how much input Christa Miller has in the wardrobe because it really tracks with her personality and the characters she often plays; the pieces are punchy.
She wore a great Clare V. sweatshirt with L’Ennui on it – by the time I sourced it, it was nearly sold out. Now it’s fully sold out (aren’t I useful) BUT there is a wait list. I’m on it.
How freaking cute is this?
Discontinued and Disappointed: An Alternative to Gary
Just realized the title for this sounds like a personal ad, so I’m keeping it. Has a documentarian ever attempted to dig up old personal ads, track the adverts, and see if anything came out of those quests for love in the weekly paper? I’d watch that! Love, Ink. A24, call me.
Now for the awkward segue to athleisure….
A reader inquired about an alternative to the Sweaty Betty Gary sweatpant, which appears to be discontinued (stock is very, very low so if you have one in your cart, now is the time to check out!). Maybe Gary is on a sabbatical and will be back, but just in case he’s gone for good, I asked Lainey for an alternative. This woman knows pants and not a lot of people can say that. She said she’s relied on the Alo Yoga Co-Op pant through her travels in Japan. She loves a little drop crotch and I can assure you she’s picky AF, which makes her trustworthy. She’s a very measured shopper.
And for a non-measured option, I bought these drop crotch Zara pants and have been wearing them non-stop for the last two weeks.
Alison Roman’s Perfect Stripe
When I say perfect stripe, I mean it. About 80% of my shirts have stripes but that doesn’t mean I accept any kind of horizontal line in my life. A striped shirt should be weighty or super thin, nearly see-through. Always cotton. The stripes need to be decisive. Alison Roman’s is from Sezane (you can find it here). Where did this brand come from? It’s everywhere, like Ganni before it and Mansur Gavriel and Cult Gaia. Here’s a great story on it from Business of Fashion.
And speaking of stripes, if you want to see the most dedicated brand to ever do it, look at Saint James. These are made in France from heavyweight cotton. I had a hooded shirt from Saint James x J.Crew and it was incredible – you could feel the weight of it. I wore it for a good 10 years, through two pregnancies until it couldn’t take any more of me (I’m very hard on my clothes).
I’m not one to prescribe to a mode of dressing, like French Girl, because I think it’s a little hokey but sometimes, a classic earns its spot. That’s the humble striped shirt.
