Angelina Just Existing
When Angelina Jolie emerges, people perk up. Her style has always been quite set – no prints, no pops of colour. A lot of neutral “uniform” dressing pieces with black, cream and grey. Very understated, very classic. Her clothing line, Atelier Jolie, has a storefront that is only open by appointment. They are working on an online store.
This was announced in 2023 but there’s no rush to push out product; people will wait for Angelina. It’s not about being influential or capturing a TikTok trend; it’s the antithesis of how celebrity is often capitalized on to sell products.
Lainey wrote about Angelina in Venice and I had a question about her trench. I don’t know if is from this season, but it is Christian Dior (not available online).
A short sleeve trench is a choice, one that I am very into. Pair this with a long sleeve tee for late summer or sweater for fall? Ideal layering. The only issue is, short sleeve trench coats are very few and far between – so far I’ve only found this one from Burberry and Max Mara. There’s plenty of short trench coats (like this one from H&M) but it’s not quite the same thing. So far this look is dominated by designer brands but no doubt the Zaras and H&Ms have that Angelina coat on their mood boards.
Lewis Hamilton’s pumpkin spice hoodie
Lewis said we are doing plaid for fall (yes, I know it’s not fall!) and pulled out this very sumptuous hoodie. Lainey didn’t love the safety pin but I do – it’s very Sarah Jessica Parker. It was his watch that led me to his jacket by Jawara Alleyne, courtesy of this story in GQ. I don’t understand watches, but apparently this one is a big deal. I’m guessing every watch he wears is a big deal. So the hoodie was secondary to the watch for some. But not for us.
Nicola Coughlan’s post-Bridgerton fashion
Nicola spent months glammed to the max for Bridgerton, with what seemed like an endless parade of ornate gowns. It was extra in all the good ways, a feast! And very, very carefully considered. You know that feeling when you get home and rip off your jeans and put on sweatpants? I wonder if that’s what her whole summer has felt like – fashion relief.
At a festival, she wore a really good look. But in searching for it, I was shocked to discover how far the babydoll dress has fallen. All these brands naming everything above the knee as a babydoll dress is wrong! A swing dress is not a babydoll dress. A tee shirt dress is not a babydoll dress. A tennis dress is not a babydoll dress. A short slip dress is not a babydoll dress.
Maria, what are you, the babydoll dress police?
Yes, I am! Clearly someone needs to be.
OK back to Nicola, in a TRUE babydoll by Love & Lemons. If the pictures don’t match exactly, it’s because Nicola is moving around and so the mid-body is bunched. But look at the hem – this is the same dress.
The Popup Bagels hat is here and it’s wrapped up with the Chloe Susanna ankle boots and red Miu Miu bag. Overall, a stellar festival look.
