Austin Butler’s Perfect White Shirt

What do I always say? The basics are the hardest to source! A request came in for Austin Butler’s white shirt seen here and the reader had already done some extensive digging but it’s a white long-sleeve shirt. 

 

This is tough. I considered Tom Ford, Prada and Jill Sander. What I’m specifically looking for is a boat neck and sleeves that do not have a cuff (which most men’s long-sleeve tees do). In a deep-dive, I came across this video from two years ago of Austin wearing what looks like the same shirt. 

 

 

In the video, you can see it’s ribbed. It might be vintage (that’s definitely his thing) but the details scream Rick Owens. His shirts often have this kind of neckline and while this exact one might not be available, there are many similar options at Ssense (and if you live in Canada, remember that Ssense is Canadian, based in Montreal). NYT City Sneakers

This request came straight from the NYT Style section, so you know it’s bougie. But not as expensive as you think! First off, I love the way Simonne Dom is described as swaddled and cocooned – cashmere is a baby blanket for adults. And wearing sneakers while walking around any city makes sense. These are the Hogan Cooper sneaker in camel, I found them on Yoox but poke around as plenty of places sell them. Another thing about Simonne? She has no digital footprint, at least none that I could find. The chicest thing a person can be is offline. (Thanks Rowena!)

 

Catherine O’Hara in The Studio has me kind of stumped?

The Studio is getting a lot of love for its wardrobe, styled by costume designer Kameron Lennox. You can read about her process in this NYT piece. Kathryn Hahn’s character is really out there so she gets a lot of shine but I was asked for something much more under-the-radar than a Gucci hat; it’s the matching set worn by Catherine O’Hara.

This one is a struggle for me because I can’t decide if it’s oatmeal or off-white or maybe even a pale yellow (it totally depends on which screen I view it on). And the toggles are really prominent but didn’t help in my search. 

There’s something very similar about the cut of the sweatshirt though and then last night it hit me that it looks a lot like Le Bon Shoppe. I’m obsessed with Le Bon Shoppe’s socks, I hoard them. I also have one of their long-sleeve shirts, which is a heavy cotton that has the same texture as this sweater she is wearing. This looks like the Daisy long sleeve (which appears to be sold out everywhere, but the same styles are often brought back). Paired with the Breezy pants in naturel, I think I’m onto something. The only thing that is stumping me is the toggles – maybe it was added by the costume designer to break up the colour palette on camera? I don’t know, but this is my best guess, Crystal.
