Hailey's kitten heel

Hailey Bieber does it again. Lainey declared Hailey Bieber’s square-toe thong kitten heels a fashion emergency but honestly? They are growing on me. Mostly it’s her styling because I’m obsessed with the polka dot capris (from Paloma Wool). As for the already-infamous kitten heel, Hailey has been wearing these since at least March. These are Toteme, a Swedish brand that the fashion tastemakers love and while it is pricey, it is nowhere near the prices of legacy design houses (yet). You can find Hailey’s thong thong thong thong thongs at Ssense.

I also have a working theory that most shoes, in isolation, are ugly. A stiletto heel, just sitting on a shelf? Embarrassing. A chunky sneaker? Dated. Adidas Sambas? It’s giving airport. Loafers? Totally depends on the circumstance (worn in brown Gucci loafers and pristine black Gucci loafers with the fluff inside – these things are not the same). Every shoe is circumstantial.

(Lainey: I beg to differ! The McQueen bootie I gagged over yesterday is a work of art on its own, even when it’s not on Charlize Theron’s foot. Also, they’re on sale and they are on their way to me, so if you’re in Canada and you want in, click here – this is an affiliate link. In the US you can find them here, though not on sale, also an affiliate link.)

Issa from Adults

This request came in this week – this was worn on Issa (played by Amita Rao) from Adults (a show I haven’t watched yet but will). It’s a one-shoulder ruched dress and was available on Asos, but is sold out. (I’m sorry, that’s the nature of TV shopping).

However, there is a fairly similar one here in a different colour palette. And for Gabriella: Google “ruched camo print ombre dress” and you will find really similar options. What’s interesting, though, is it is all fast fashion. There’s no “original” dress from which imitators have sprung. I’m also kind of obsessed with all of Amita’s looks, I love her Instagram.

Beyoncés London loafers

There is nothing I can uncover about Beyoncé that the BeyHive hasn’t identified and archived before I even open my email. In this case, it’s a pair of loafers, see below. Beyoncé rarely wears a loafer and even more rarely a sneaker or flat but on tour after a long night on stage, this makes sense.

Ava’s bar necklace

The Cut called Ava Daniels’ power wardrobe “An End to the to the Ugly Millennial Outfits on Hacks.” I’m not calling generational dressing ugly but wardrobe was clearly used as a way to sharpen and mature Ava as she went from a reluctant joke writer to a literal boss. It’s not trendy power dressing like someone pretending to “dress for the job they want” and instead it was the kind of pieces you expect a writer working 14 hours day to rely on, like wide-leg trousers, shrunken tees, fitted blazers. I was specifically asked about her necklace and jewellery is hard for me because it often looks quite different on camera than it does in photographs.

A Hacks forum led me to the J. Hannah identity nameplate necklace.  It absolutely looks like correct one. Mejuri makes one as well, but a little more delicate. When perusing, look for a curb chain with a blank nameplate. Thanks Erin!

Dakota Johnson on Hot Ones

I received this request for Dakota Johnson; she (like Anne Hathaway) is someone who is a pretty consistent ask. But I didn’t realize Dakota still works with Kate Young. What’s interesting about Kate is that she’s lost some really key clients (Margot Robbie before Barbie, Selena Gomez who moved to Erin Walsh) and Anne Hathaway (also moved to Erin Walsh). But she has retained Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson, Michelle Williams and of course Dakota. Kate is hardly down-and-out but there’s definitely something there.

Ok back to Dakota’s suede jacket, which is Khaite autumn 2025 so should be hitting shelves any minute. Oh and for what it’s worth, these kind of suede blazers will be everywhere. In my search I saw versions from Reformation, Anine Bing, Max Mara, Sézane… it’s going to be a Suede Girl Fall.
