As Seen On Social Media: Janet’s Jeans, Elizabeth’s black Oxfords

MC covered Janet Jackson’s top 5 AMA in honour of her ICON Award. Janet was a bright spot a show sorely lacking star power.

When it came time to perform, she went full 90s with the super baggy jeans and boxers peeking out at the top. I loved it because it felt so HER but without leaning too hard into nostalgia. 

The outfit was Vetements and I’m quite sure the jeans were as well. I would also guess there was a lot of customization because Janet has to move. She can’t throw down like she does with off-the-rack denim. I did find a similar pair from Zara. (Thanks, Eileen!)

Zoey Deutch's black dress

This request came in for Zoey Deutch in a great black dress with the perfect black heel. It was easy to source: Michael Kors runway. But the question of where you can actually buy Michael Kors runway is a mystery to me. I know there are Michael Kors fashion shows. I know a lot of celebrities go to his shows. But where can runway clothes be purchased? No idea. And I’ve looked! Try to find a piece a celebrity is wearing at one of his show’s online, it’s nearly impossible. 

There are three main brands:  Michael Kors Collection, Michael Kors, and MICHAEL Michael Kors. There are standalone mall boutiques, but those are stocked with bags and shoes. Luxury retailers like Net-a-Porter and Luisa Via Roma carry some pieces – but not this dress. The brand’s main website is difficult to browse. Then there’s the endless discounted/outlet mall stuff that you find at places like Winners or Nordstrom Rack. It’s a maze of licensing agreements and I am lost in it. 

But back to this dress – I found similar black options at Anthropologie and Banana Republic.

Elizabeth Banks’s oxford shoe in The Better Sister

The Better Sister is getting all kinds of buzz and is on my watch list this weekend. I received a request for a pair of black oxfords worn by Elizabeth Banks and it’s one photograph, so a little tricky. But I want to talk about Oxfords for a minute: a classic shoe, but does it feel like oxfords have kind of fallen off? It is never “out of style” but there seems to be a lot less options for Oxfords as the trend shifted towards Adidas sneakers, Birkenstocks, netted flats and now, ballet flats. 

For once, the lack of options worked in my favour. These Church’s brogues look a lot like what she is wearing. (Thanks Kilo!)

Hailey Bieber: Sunglass Queen

Hailey Bieber is highly influential (hello, bike shorts) and if she ever decides to launch a second business, sunglasses are her lane. She has so many pairs of sunglasses, there are webpages dedicated to her eyewear. I wonder if she wears prescription sunglasses? I do, and the only thing stopping me from having a million pairs is the cost. 

I was asked about the pair seen here and she’s been wearing them for months, making it tricky to track down. She definitely favours YSL for eyewear but will also wear Prada and Oliver Peoples. These ones look a lot like Chimi eyewear. That said, even her fan sites couldn’t track these down so it could be vintage or from her vast collection.

The minute I saw Lainey’s post on Emma Corrin’s striped bathing suit, I knew I had to find it. Lainey was correct in her guess, this is green and brown. It’s a Dries Van Noten swimsuit, how f-cking chic is that. I have seen it online (specifically Ssense), but haven’t seen it for sale online. While browsing, I came across this printed suit and I’m obsessed.  (Anne, find the coolest boutique near you that carries Dries and ask them about this. Style name is Greta.)
