Baby Elle, but not Baby Elle
The first trailer for the Legally Blonde prequel, called Elle, was released yesterday starring Lexi Minetree in the Elle Woods role made famous by Reese Witherspoon. This story is set in 1995, obviously before Elle went to law school…but the beats are the same.
In the original movie, Elle goes from being the queen of her sorority in California to the misfit among the serious law school students at Harvard and has to figure out a way to fit in and, eventually, practice law. In the new series, Elle is transplanted from sunny California to rainy Seattle and has to find a way to fit in among the grunge kids in the Pacific Northwest. To me, this is also giving Cher Horowitz in Clueless…. which, by the way, was released in 1995, when Elle is taking place so, to me, this can’t be a coincidence.
I saw some reaction to the trailer on social media when it dropped, with some people all like, Ava Phillippe was right there and she looks exactly like her mother, why didn’t they cast her. This made me laugh, another example of how people can’t make up their minds. If it was Ava, they would have been all, like, nepotism! And they didn’t cast her and they’re all, like, boooo whyyyy not?!
Coincidence or conspiracy… Ava yesterday was at a brand partnership event in the Elle Woods shade of pink, in a very Elle Woods outfit, in a very Elle Woods pose.

Baby Elle, but not Baby Elle.

Kayleigh Donaldson’s latest piece is about Remarkably Bright Creatures, the book by Shelby Van Pelt. I have not read the book, but I did screen the film which premieres tomorrow on Netflix and I was charmed and also fell in love with Marcellus, the octopus, voiced by Alfred Molina. Sally Field, as expected, is the warmest hug in the film. And Lewis Pullman is hot as f-ck. (Pajiba)
Coco Rocha looks incredible in an incredible dress. (Go Fug Yourself)
Last month The Atlantic published a rigorously sourced piece on Kash Patel and he had a hissy fit over it. Aziz Ansari then imitated him by bulging his eyes out last Saturday on SNL during the cold open. Now The Atlantic has a follow-up on Kash’s alleged bourbon merch. Worst swag ever. (Celebitchy)
