Hudson, Beatles, and Bags

In today’s site open, I talked about Connor Storrie hosting SNL this weekend and he was asked by Entertainment Tonight whether or not any of his Heated Rivalry co-stars might make cameos this weekend. Connor claimed he didn’t know but we do know is that Hudson Williams was in Paris today.

He was photographed heading to a photo shoot, same goes for Harris Dickinson; they were both carrying Balenciaga bags and they are both fronting Balenciaga campaigns so it’s pretty obvious that whatever they’re doing, it’s to promote the brand and bag life.

Vogue just published a post about bag life this week in relation to Connor’s appearances in New York this week wearing a Sandro crossbody, the latest “it boy with an it bag”, joining Jacob Elordi and Timothée Chalamet and the generation of young actors with luxury bag kinks. Hudson and Harris are now part of the club.

I love this movement. Because forever and ever it used to be that bags were a women thing. But let’s be clear about who started this: Black trendsetters, as always. Almost a decade ago Pharrell Williams became the first man to model a Chanel handbag and a couple months later GQ published a piece about how he was at the forefront of the “man bag” moment. He wasn’t necessarily the first but he was one of the most high-profile. And now he’s designing bags of his own at Louis Vuitton.

The majority of the it boy bags, though, are not specifically targeted to the boys. Most are technically categorised in the women’s segment of the business – Chanel doesn’t even have a men’s division – but, like, a bag is a bag. You don’t need to identify as a specific gender to need a vessel to put your sh-t in or have it hang on your body. All the members of BTS have been living the luxury bag life for years and have modeled bags from almost every fashion house whenever they travel. Jimin goes viral every few months when people revisit all his airport versatility wearing the Chanel Gabrielle:

So while of course it’s delicious seeing Hudson and Connor and Harris, who’s playing John Lennon in the Beatles biopics, and Timmy and Jacob with all their bags, let’s please remember they’re just the latest in a long line of famous men who’ve been it bagging so prominently.
