Bella Hadid in The Beauty
Bella Hadid was photographed in Paris today filming scenes for Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty. As you can see, she is heavily made up, in a two-piece jumpsuit, riding a bike, and the scene involves some kind of accident.
The Beauty has been in production for weeks now, with series leads Rebecca Hall and Evan Peters seen in Venice and Rome, along with other cast members including Ashton Kutcher.
It's is based on a comic book of the same name. According to Variety they’ve not been forthcoming about how true they’ll stay to the story and which actor is playing which character but the book is about beauty being an STI. So you can give it to someone by having sex with them – which is why almost everyone is beautiful… but it comes at a cost and there’s corruption happening behind the scenes.
Since Ashton is rumoured to be playing some kind of tech bro, it's possible that the beauty virus is some kind of evil plan by billionaires and government agents to control or disappear people, whatever, those are my own theories but you get the point. A dystopian parable about the relentless pursuit of physical perfection. Bella’s casting totally makes sense.
What else happened today…
If you’re more than a casual fan of Beyoncé, you know about Keri Hilson. It is widely held pop culture knowledge that when Keri was on the rise, she dissed Beyoncé on a remix of “Turnin’ Me On” and her career was basically never the same. Keri’s mounting a comeback and on the press tour, she’s decided to talk about what really happened with that track, and the circumstances around its release. There’s also some drama in the comments between her and the songwriter, Esther Dean. While we’re here, can I just say how much I love “Knock You Down” and how mad I was when Kim and Kanye decided to make it their proposal song, ugh. (Vibe)
Spike Lee is heading to Cannes… with Denzel Washington. And, possibly, A$AP Rocky which also means… Rihanna? Spike’s film, Highest 2 Lowest, based on Kurosawa’s High and Low, is screening out of competition at the festival and Denzel plays a music mogul. Can’t wait to see this. (Pajiba)
Rashida Jones and Tracee Ellis Ross have been promoting the new season of Black Mirror together, and they’re matching in oversized clothes – love it, looks great. But I can’t be excited because I covered the junket and theirs is the first episode, called “Common People”. And it f-cked me up. To the point where I was so sad, so down, after watching it, like for several hours. Which I told them and we had a laugh about it. There are no laughs in the episode though, be warned. Saturday Night Live is getting a British version and I’m curious to see what the bookings will be like and whether not if you’ve hosted the British version, how long you’ll have to wait to be on the American one, and vice versa. (The Mary Sue)
Will Poulter looks SO good in The Cut. I haven’t read the piece yet, but the title made me laugh: “Will Poulter can’t believe he’s this swole either”, haha. (The Cut)
