Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are not currently together. And since their breakup was reported, there have been multiple sources speaking to multiple outlets about why they split, also sharing that there’s a chance they may get back together. The latest – according to Page Six earlier this week, a source says they still talk “several times a day” and that they “still love each other” and “Ben misses her”.
If this source is legit, it would have to be someone who’s in close enough proximity to either of them to know their call log. And the question is…why?
Also who? Like is it from his camp or hers?
There are some gossips who think all of this is coming from Ben’s side and, sure, I get that. He’s the Hollywood veteran, his profile is big enough that his team has all kinds of contacts in the media, and they understand the power of a narrative…whatever this particular narrative might be.
That said, lately for Ben and the industry, there’s also another priority: award season, specifically the Oscars. Ben has a very, very, very outside longshot at a nomination for his performance in The Way Back, which many consider to be his best. I mean, chances are slim that he’ll generate enough momentum to catch up to Riz Ahmed, Chadwick Boseman, Delroy Lindo, Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, and Steven Yuen but he’s out there trying. Ben was on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast recently. And he’s also featured in Variety’s Actors on Actors series with Sacha Baron Cohen. These are standard award season campaign stops. The point is, they’re putting in some effort.
So the question is – is all this focus on his relationship and his breakup serving that purpose? I was talking to film critic Rad Simonpillai yesterday about the awards race so far and when I asked him if Ben could be an underdog, he was like, I’m not sure voters want to be hearing about all the drama in his personal life. And Ben Affleck, understanding the industry the way he does, would know this. So if these people who keep talking about him and Ana are really from his circle, well, they may want to reconsider what they’ve been leaking.
