VF really does do the most beautiful portraits, non? In the December issue, featuring the controversial Pitt cover, the magazine goes back to First Impressions – a series of photos taken early on in the careers of several high profile celebrities. A few are stunning – Jennifer Connelly’s young rosy chubby cheeks, Penelope’s plaits, Vince Vaughn without the bloat, Ben Affleck cocky and lean. Others are remarkably poignant– Ashley Judd and Renee Zellweger, so endearing and almost innocent from a decade past. And then there’s just plain funny. Leo D the Original Pipsqueak and Jessica Alba, forever marked by sexiness, no matter how hard she tries to play “serious”. I haven’t included them all but they are all worth looking at.
