Jay-Z’s three shows at Yankee Stadium this week featured what could also be described as a major mega celebrity wedding guest list and giving us one of the rarest occurrences in pop culture: Beyoncé and Rihanna in one show? It’s a unicorn event.

But let’s start on Friday when Jay-Z kicked off his weekend residency to celebrate 30 years of Reasonable Doubt, now considered a cornerstone album in the history of music, a seminal piece of work not only in rap but music in general, considering how hip-hop has influenced global pop culture. The show opened with footage of Beyoncé cutting Jay’s hair, returning to the way he wore it when the album came out.

As others on social media have pointed out, all these scenes of Beyoncé and Jay’s hair lately call to mind the one in their “Apesh*t” video which was shot in the Louvre, a temple of arts and culture, as vital to Paris as Yankee Stadium is to New York, both achieving an architectural balance between old and new, bridging tradition to modern times.

Beyoncé also joined Jay during the show for night one on “Can’t Knock the Hustle”, and then the Blue Ivy Carter came out to play piano on “Feelin’ It”. At the end of that song, she got up to hug her dad and holy s-t, Blue is TALL.

Other guests on night one included Alicia Keys, Memphis Bleek, Jaz-O, and … Nas. Pretty sure I don’t have to tell you how monumental this is, these two legends, with an almost equally as legendary rivalry, at peace after all these years.

And again, that was only night one. For night two, marking 25 years of The Blueprint, Jay brought out Slick Rick, Eminem, who also performed “Lose Yourself”, and Pharrell.

Then, for the final night, night three… well it started with chaos because of safety issues after audience members apparently rushed the gates, leading to a lockdown for almost four hours before they could let people in again. Jay explained when the show finally started that he needed to make sure nobody was hurt, and to make up for the wait, he promised it would be one for the ages. And he came through.

Teyana Taylor was the first guest, followed by Jermaine Dupri. Then Jeezy, The-Dream, and then Usher. But we’re not done. Pharrell came back, plus Fat Joe, Swizz Beatz, and Clipse. And yes… Rihanna on “Run This Town” before “Bitch Better Have My Money”.

You can imagine the live reaction to Rihanna with a mic in her hand performing music, get up! And saying sh-t like this:

She misses it, after a brief taste of it. Which of course only makes everyone that much hungrier, thirstier, for R9.

But as rare as that was, and it is very, very rare, for it to happen on the same night Beyoncé made an appearance a short while later?! WITH CHOREO!

The “Drunk in Love” giggle! I can’t!

It really happened though – BK and RiRi on an epic Sunday night in New York City, bragging rights for all the people who waited and stayed. Including Rihanna because she joined Rocky in the crowd afterwards for the rest of the show. It’s stupid how cute they are.

But what’s even cuter is that when she was performing though, Rocky had baby Rocki with him, tiny headphones on, to see her mother onstage for the first time. My heart!
