Programming note: We will be dark on Monday, October 13, in observance of Canadian Thanksgiving.

That Ocean’s 11 prequel starring Margot Robbie proceeds apace. The latest news is that Bradley Cooper is joining the Ocean-verse, which means Ryan Gosling is not, so this is no longer a Barbie reunion.

The film is being directed by Lee Isaac Chung, and Robbie is also producing through her LuckyChap shingle. Details are still under wraps, but it’s some kind of prequel, set in the1960s. Danny Ocean’s parents, perhaps? The only thing that bothers me about this whole thing is how everyone is pretending Ocean’s 8 never happened. Ocean’s 8 is good! And it’s not like it’s some kind of horrible bomb, it made $297 million worldwide. Justice for Debbie Ocean and Lou Miller, aka my heist moms.

It’s going to be a busy fall for BCoop, though, as he gears up for the release and inevitable Oscar run for Is This Thing On?. Both Lainey and I talked about the potential Best Actor field today, but neither of us mentioned Will Arnett. But Is This Thing On? premieres tonight at the New York Film Festival. By next week we’ll have a better idea of how seriously to take Arnett in the Best Actor race, and whether or not Coop can make another Best Director/Best Picture push. People like Bradley Cooper, he has a lot of respect among his peers. I’ll never count him out of the race, but right now it feels more like Paul Thomas Anderson’s time is coming at last. Coop might find it’s a tough crowd this year.

What else happened today…

Erin Andrews is talking about her 2017 cervical cancer diagnosis, and why she kept it quiet at the time (hint: she worked with a lot of men). But she also talks about how it was diagnosed and treated so quickly: early detection! I just got genetic testing done—as an adoptee I don’t have family medical history—and the doctors were adamant that regular screenings are really the best defense against cancer. Get your screenings! Rose Byrne fashion dump! She is promoting If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and is doing so with a mix of standard and wacky style. My favorite look is the neutral suit. What color is that? Tan? Taupe? Off-white? Whatever, it’s the right shade to not wash out her fair skin, though I wish she had gone for a bold lipstick or colorful shoes, just for contrast. (Go Fug Yourself)

Jeff Bridges went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote Tron: Ares and it is delightful. The Dude abides, and thinks that ice is for beverages, not the streets. Also, Bridges is creating a line of muumuus but he calls them “mus” and they look extremely comfortable. Now that I’m in my forties, I think I’m ready for my mu phase. (Celebitchy)

Matlock on CBS is actually a really good show, starring Kathy Bates as “Matty” Matlock, who is using her legal brain to try and get justice for her daughter. It’s really enjoyable, a mix of procedural and character-driven elements, Bates is fantastic, and it’s the kind of all-ages viewing you need around the holidays when the whole family is looking for something to watch. Just saying, keep Matlock in mind. It also co-stars Leah Lewis of Nancy Drew (where my Drewds at?!), who alleged sexual assault against her co-star, David Del Rio.

This is terrible for Leah, my heart goes out to her, and I hope she is finding the strength and support she needs right now (it sounds like she is). CBS acted swiftly, though, firing David Del Rio and having him escorted from set. Del Rio’s wife, actress Katherine Del Rio, is being totally normal on main, and not blaming Leah at all. Lol, just kidding, of course she’s not being normal and of course she’s blaming Leah for her husband’s actions. Gross. At least Leah Lewis has people around her who love and uplift her. (Pajiba)
