It is almost the three-year anniversary of that time Missy Elliott saved the Super Bowl. I bring this up often because for people who didn’t live through the dominance of the Missy/Timbaland/ Magoo era (fine, I remember Magoo so I’m not THAT young), Missy’s scene-stealing heroics at the Super Bowl are how they know her best. I’ve been waiting patiently for a new era of Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott but every track she’s released in recent years has gone relatively unnoticed. I think I’m the only one who remembers I’m Better. Now, Missy is back with Get It

Get It is officially a Busta Rhymes song featuring Missy and Kelly Rowland but I had to listen to it three times before I could figure out where Kelly was. She’s the one saying “get it, get it, get it” over and over but it’s definitely a Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott collaboration. Get It is really solid. It’s weird and confusing and I think I love it. It falls apart a bit in the middle and turns into a completely different song in the last 25 seconds but it’s catchy as f-ck and there’s nothing more special than Busta and Missy’s cadences combined.

The first time Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes blessed us with their collective talents was in 1997 on Missy’s debut album Supa Dupa Fly. I’ll never forget hearing Busta belt out “Missy LP numba one!” in the intro for the first time. I’ll love these two together forever in the name of nostalgia so it’s nice to know they still got it. Get it? Get it get it get it get it. *Kelly Rowland voice*

I’ve already written about how the Super Bowl commercials will be better than the halftime show (#NeverForget) but now we have even more than Tiffany Haddish and Groupon to look forward to. Missy, Busta, Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage are starring in Super Bowl spot for Mountain Dew and Doritos that Forbes is calling a “visual that nobody could have predicted and which will surely make the annual post-Bowl lists of which advertisements earned the most goodwill.” That was a lot of words to say that people are going to like it. Missy, Busta, Morgan Freeman AND Tyrion Lannister? I already LOVE it. OMG. I just realized it’s out already. OMG. It’s perfect.

Are you dying? I have deceased. I vote for Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage cameos in the official Get It music video, which you already know is going to blow our minds.

Can MTV fix its life and finally give Missy Elliott the Video Vanguard award she GODDAMN DESERVES?
