Huntr/x Thanksgiving
EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami performed as Huntr/x at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade today in New York City and given how popular Kpop Demon Hunters has been with kids, you can imagine the excitement. Also the Derpy Tiger balloon! And… Bobby (aka Ken Jeong) was there too!
EJAE, Audrey, and Rei have performed on broadcast before – on The Tonight Show – but this was a level up, a much bigger production, and closer to what a K-pop performance would feel like with the dancers, the choreo, and the pyro.
It’s great they included youth performers in the ensemble, and I like the moves too, part dance and part martial arts, which is reflected in the costumes. Note too that while the colour theme was mostly black, we got the purple ear warmer to honour Rumi’s hair.
You know what would really take this all the way K-pop though? We need the dance practice video. All K-pop groups post rehearsal footage, and Huntr/x should too.
EJAE, Audrey, and Rei will next be taking the stage at the Jingle Ball in December, while waiting to hear about more nominations. They’re already up for Grammys, now it’s a matter of how much more momentum they can build for the Oscars. If they can pull this off, then consider what we saw today at the parade an appetiser. “Golden” is exactly the kind of energy that the Oscars show needs.
What else happened today…
Here’s another beautiful and queer moment from the parade – Jonathan Groff doing the most and then kissing Bowen Yang’s hand. (EW)
Kayleigh Donaldson’s wonderfully furious piece about Olivia Nuzzi and her final line is chilling AF. (Pajiba)
Lea Michele in a really great silver dress and while I’ve seen her in Funny Girl on Broadway and enjoyed her performance, I do agree with what the Fug Girls are saying here about the acting. It does feel like it’s a simulation and not from the soul. (Go Fug Yourself)
The title of this article deserves an award. I laughed and laughed and then instantly clicked: “We proved that dudes skip leg day” is an all-timer, LOLOLOLOL. (The Ringer)
Robert Irwin says things like “oh my gosh” and “holy smokes”. He is indeed a walking green flag and I’m mad at the world that I feel the need to qualify it by saying, “for now”. (Mamamia)
