One of the more high-concept (mainstream) comedies in the works is Tag, based on the idiotic but true story of a bunch of guys who played a game of tag for thirty years. Any story that wacky is destined to be optioned, and indeed, the rights were snapped up and now we have the first trailer for Tag, the movie about a bunch of guys playing tag. It has a helluva cast: Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Ed Helms, Isla Fisher, Hannibal Buress, Leslie Bibb—yes, THE Leslie Bibb!—a glimpse of Rashida Jones, and Jeremy Renner. One of these things is not like the other…except Jeremy Renner was totally committed to a bit in The House last year. I’m not saying he has secret Chris Hemsworth comedy powers, but it looks like Tag is playing on his ultra-tough-guy image, and, well, he’s not the worst dude to get for that gig. (Although Hemsworth would be better/funnier. But this is true in most things.)

Last summer, you may or may not recall that Renner was photographed with both arms broken. Everyone assumed it was an injury sustained on the Avengers set, but it turned out he broke his arms filming Tag, which also filmed in Atlanta (aka Hollywood Peach) at the same time as Avengers. Renner is one of those “I do my own stunts” guys, although to his credit, more than most “I do my own stunts” guys, he does acknowledge the existence of stunt doubles. Anyway, he clearly did at least one stunt for Tag, because he broke both arms. I bet we’ll be hearing about his broken arms a lot while he’s promoting Tag later this year. So that’s something to look forward to, Renner fans, because it’s unlikely he’ll be part of the Avengers: Infinity War promotional circus shortly to begin.

Over the weekend the internet had fun with the lack of Hawkeye on the Infinity War poster and Renner’s name is not listed in the hefty credit block on the poster (he’s also missing from the trailers). He was reported to be filming Infinity War last summer, but there was overlap between scenes shot for Avengers 3 and 4. Has anyone considered he isn’t even in Infinity War? Maybe consider that, is all I’m saying.
