A WAP Reunion
In my site intro today, I wrote about BTS and what they meant to many people during COVID, the added symbolism that their song “Mikrokosmos” took on during the pandemic. There’s another song I associate with the pandemic, though the … umm… message is a slightly different, LOL.
Cardi B’s “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion was released in August 2020, a massive hit that made history, becoming the first female rap collaboration to top the Billboard Hot 100. We were all inside, and Cardi and Meg took us deeper inside (sorry, sorry, I had to) and, in the process, made so many of us laugh and made others mad. The madder they were, the harder we laughed, and the wetter… well… you know.
Cardi is on tour right now and played Houston last night. It was a no-brainer who showed up, and what they performed. It was a WAP reunion.
I love them. I love their friendship, a bilabial sisterhood, ha. Someone much more clever than me can turn this into a rap lyric with its multipurpose definitions, between genitalia and the sounds that result when two lips come together.
I also just love Cardi’s overall tour energy. Every day lately my feed is serving up hilarious moments from her concerts, like the other night when she gave the best f-cking reason for her fans to stop fighting.
This. It’s exactly this, comments like these that make her such a star, that make her so entertaining and so endearing. Because it’s not just that it’s funny as f-ck, it’s also completely unrehearsed, spontaneous, straight from her brain. Nobody ad-libs like Cardi B.
What else happened today…
Kristen Stewart loves a bra over pants, a skirt, and making sure we see it – and I appreciate this about her. What is her real life, non-red carpet bra collection like? If I ever get a chance, I will ask her. (Go Fug Yourself)
Conan O’Brien’s doctor did not believe him when he said he doesn’t do drugs but I definitely believe that Conan doesn’t do drugs because he’s been too nice for too long and in my experience, when people use coke for too long, being nice is a challenge, and this is me saying it nicely. (Pajiba)
There’s a new documentary about Lorne Michaels because people are obsessed with trying to figure him out and since he agreed to it – I mean people who know him and owe their careers to him are talking so this is an endorsed project – I’m assuming he’s willing to be figured out. Or at least entertaining the attempt. (Vulture)
Everyone is clowning on the McDonald’s CEO about the weird way he ate his burger and he clearly doesn’t eat the food that pays him but, like, how many of us looked at this man and said, oh, he would be fun to have a meal with. (Celebitchy)
You had me at “scandal” + “elite private school”. And then you throw in … water polo? I cannot wait to devour this article. (Vanity Fair)
