Carey Mulligan received the CBE for services to drama and as British Vogue points out, her outfit is notable because she didn’t do the typical dress with pumps, but instead went with an ivory jacket and trousers. It’s so posh and grown up, understated but significant.

Carey is not constantly photographed and this event is more than a red carpet, it’s a service award from her country. She clearly put thought into how she wanted to commemorate that in her clothing. And that commemoration did not include nude peep-toe pumps and nylons.
