It’s not that this look on Carrie Underwood was the most remarkable at the American Music Awards last night. The reason I’m spotlighting it is because it’s the best look I’ve ever seen on her, at any event, ever. And it’s a look that is both high fashion and totally on brand, which is how good style is achieved.
This black gown is well-constructed, the fit is great, and I appreciate the country accents – the tricked out fringe on her shoulders and the western belt, both of which speak to her roots. I like too that the skirt has been hitched up on one leg, which is both fashion and country function. And the combat boots totally work too.
Typically at award shows, Carrie’s vibe includes a lot more lace, feathers, jewel tones. I’ve just realised that it’s always her on-stage wardrobe changes that I enjoy the most. This actually would have looked great on the red carpet but I don’t know that she would have chosen it for the carpet had she walked last night. Which I would have strongly encouraged if I was her stylist. I wish we had some more posed shots of this look. As I said, it’s an all-time best on her for me.
