Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett were named co-winners of the Entertainer of the Year award at the ACMs last night. It’s the biggest prize of the event and, sure, on the one hand sharing is good. Carrie is now the only female artist to win Entertainer of the Year three times at the ACMs. But there are some people who aren’t happy about the fact she was the only female nominee in the category and ended up sharing the award. Last year, all ACM Entertainer of the Year nominees were male. It was the same in 2018. In 2017 Carrie was once again the only woman. In 2015 and 2016 Miranda Lambert was the only woman. For the upcoming Country Music Association awards in November, both Carrie and Miranda are nominated for Entertainer of the Year – the first time since 1979 that two women have been recognised in the category. And it’s not like women aren’t a part of country music. Where Carrie is concerned, it’s not like she wasn’t out there working her ass off during the show either. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like she was up there on stage at the Opry a LOT.
Carrie closed out the show’s opening medley with “Before He Cheats”. As the kids say, this song still slaps. And she is unreal with the live vocals.
Here’s another example of her performance level – later on in the show, Carrie delivered a medley honouring the women of country music, paying tribute to Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, and Martina McBride.

That’s not even all the songs. There were so many songs! She didn’t miss a single note. She dominated that stage. And, look, I’ve never been a Carrie Underwood stan but her talent, her consistency, and her energy are undeniable. She is high quality every time she’s out there.
