The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, opens this Friday and I’m so curious to see what the box office will be. I’m sure you’ve heard, The Marvels did not perform well (understatement) in its opening weekend and Sarah will probably have some thoughts on this later this week, but three weeks ago, Deadline was already projecting a possible $50 million opening for Songbirds & Snakes, in part based on the “enormous” social media engagement that’s been happening in the months leading up to the release.
The franchise, as we know, already has a huge following, and even though none of the stars from the previous movie are making an appearance, the brand awareness is already there. And of course it also helped that this movie had an interim agreement to promote before the strike ended. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens at the movies this weekend.
With three days to go, the cast made its final red carpet stop in Hollywood last night. Rachel Zegler went for full drama in a tan gown with a veil. Hunter Schafer, who in my opinion is criminally underused in the film, looks unreal in this sparkling cut-out dress with her hair straight and parted in the middle and serving so much face card, OMG.
But the standout, for me, is Viola Davis in glittering green, because this is not a shape we’ve seen a lot of on her and I LOVE it. The cape dress, for me, will always be a winner. And it’s especially effective that the shape of her hair and the cape dress are complementing each other. And, as you can see, it’s giving leg, leg, leg. She looks amazing and you can tell, she feels amazing. She knows this one is extra special.
