Cate Blanchett has had a lighter film schedule the last year or so, focusing on her duties as co-director of the Sydney Theatre Company with her husband and travelling as Blanche DuBois with A Streetcar Named Desire for productions in Washington and New York, unless you count the “behind the scenes” film that Steven Soderbergh shot while he was directing a play for the STC last year. Click here for more information on that. Suffice to say, Cate has art coming at her from all directions.

Jacek and I saw Cate as Blanche in New York last December. It was the experience of a lifetime.

Cate will soon be promoting Robin Hood with Russell Crowe and the film is expected at Cannes but for now she’s in Berlin, beginning work on Hanna with Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) about a young girl assassin, owned by the CIA, who is trying to break free and live a normal life. She’s pursued by a major kill-bitch. Who? Please. Who else?
