Cate Blanchett is now in Venice to promote Todd Field’s film, Tár, in which she plays a conductor. Early reaction to her performance is overwhelmingly positive, at least from what I’ve seen. The Hollywood Reporter says she “astounds” in the film, and The Guardian calls it a “colossal” performance. And it’s not like Cate is an actor who isn’t already considered among the best of the best. So if critics, who are accustomed to her talent, are once again in awe of her work, you know what that means: Oscar possibilities.
Here's Cate in a black jumpsuit on the carpet tonight, adorned with a flower bustline. As usual she looks amazing.

But I almost prefer her outfit from earlier in the day – a blue/grey set with a scarf collar, those pleated pants are such a good fit and I love how they’re tapered with a button or clasp above the ankle, even her sunglasses are working with the look…it’s classic Blanchett style.

Have you ever wondered about Blanchett yacht style though? Because before she headed to Venice, Cate was on a boat in Sardinia with her husband Andrew Upton and her choice of swimwear is an khaki-coloured one-piece with a high collar and short sleeves. SO GOOD.
Also very good: Julianne Moore, Venice festival president, on opening night last night:

It sparkles. There’s a cape. And the skirt is sheer. Who says a woman in her 60s can’t go sheer below the waist?
Finally, Timothée Chalamet living that spritz life with Stéphane Bak ahead of his official film festival engagements. As mentioned yesterday, Timmy ostensibly is there to work and promote his movie but he’s also been on set all summer shooting Dune 2. So this trip isn’t ALL hustle. There are a lot of downtime vibes happening too.
