The all-female space expedition completed its mission safely and successfully. This specific group had a mix of tourists as well as two women who are aero scientists (Aisha Bowe is a former NASA rocket scientist; Amanda Nguyen is a bioastronautics research scientist). The mission included celebrities for a reason – marketing.
Space tourism is already a rich-people pastime but be prepared for every influencer to hop on a spaceship the first chance they get. The outer limits is the new Capri. It reminds me of the Olivia Rodrigo quote, “I always ask them if they would want to go to space. And if they say yes, I don’t date them.” Is space tourism the Cybertruck of travel?
I watched Jon Hamm’s new Apple TV show this weekend and one thing Jon Hamm is going to do is give you “brooding man contemplating his life.” He will uneasily sip on a glass of dark liquor and stare off into the abyss like no other. Not everything about the show works but it’s early.
Laura Benanti made a video to say she goes to church and is afraid to tell people. As she explains, she feels Christianity has been co-opted by extremists. She got a lot of support in the comments and there are a few churchgoing celebrities, but I agree with her in that most are not vocal about it. Maybe for the exact reason she lays out.
Alec Baldwin is an SNL regular and on his reality show, he said that Lorne loves Hilaria. This is so interesting to me… like, does she do the accent for Lorne? I need to see Lorne’s face when Hilaria forgets the English word for “door” or something.
HBO announced the new Harry Potter cast, a lot of information which has already been floating around on social media. I was never a superfan but have read the books and have been to the world in Universal Studios. I understand how deep the roots of this money tree go but I do wonder if we, as a society, have moved past Harry Potter. What if we collectively… leave it behind? What if we stop feeding the ego of JK Rowling, someone who relentlessly focuses on a very small, very vulnerable group. To make it worse, she’s a litigious billionaire. I can separate the art from the artist, and often do. But she actively mixes her belief system with projects, including making comments about the previous cast. She makes it nearly impossible for someone not to align her with the franchise.
Here is the original Hermoine, in a birthday post from last year.
