How long into 2025 will I be dating my work “2024” and driving our site manager Emily nuts? TBD!

Many people are officially starting work or school today, it’s the most Monday that ever Mondayed and talking about New Year’s Eve feels… almost dated. It was nearly a week ago, time marches on. But over the last few years, does it seem like NYE has kind of fallen off as a party holiday, taken over by Halloween?

Maybe it’s my demographic, but New Year’s Eve has subtly turned into a staying-in holiday for a lot of people. Usually I’d chalk this up to my social circle and not a trend, but even the celebs seemed low-key. Very few posted about New Year’s, but we did get a Rihanna video.

The Biebers also appeared to have had a house party, with Hailey enjoying an In-N-Out Burger with caviar. Caviar really was the food of the season, I had it on Christmas Eve with potato chips. In pop culture, the Biebers started 2025 the same way they ended 2024: bombarded by brainworm TikTok accounts who deep dive into their “likes” to see if they are still together. Never mind they are literally and physically in the same place.

More interesting than the Bieber speculation is the Scooter Braun Instagram deactivation. This could be a social media purge for 2025 (something he desperately needs, he posts like he’s a new recruit at an MLM company). A few sleuths also think Justin blocked his former manager Alison Kaye. She is currently President of Music at HYBE America, while Scooter is CEO of the same company. But Alison and Justin have not been working together for a while and for the last couple of years, particularly through the Selena-Hailey stuff, Alison has been positively commenting on Selena’s posts. She’s been a manager for a long time and involved in these fandoms, this isn’t a coincidence. So I don’t know if this is symbolic of him totally severing his relationship with his old team or if there’s a possible bigger thing at stake here, like the “squandered millions” we first heard about back in October.

I know the Golden Globes are not meaningful, but they are fun. This is where actors get to be shiny and popular, so I’m here for it. It’s kind of like this list in The Independent of the 60 Best Actors of the 21st Century - a harmless distraction. There is no clear metric as to how The Independent decided on these placements – it’s totally arbitrary and that’s what makes it so fun to argue over. While all these lists are meaningless engagement pieces, I do agree with number one, always and forever. While looking through the list I realized that very few have social media and the ones who do use it strictly for professional reasons, never personally. Florence Pugh is the rare exception, she still posts like a person. Here’s number ten on the list.

No, I’m not skipping the biggest social media launch of the year (ha ha). I’ll be covering Meghan Markle’s return to Instagram and her Netflix trailer tomorrow.
