As Lainey wrote this morning, the It Ends With Us press is getting messier and more convoluted, a lot of it fueled by TikTok. Now I’m not a Blake apologist, far from it – my coverage of Preserve was harsh and I was one of the first to write about her “age of Antebellum” choices, which got picked up by outlets like Gawker and Vanity Fair at the time. It was a huge deal to me professionally and if you read this column, you know I do not stan her or Ryan. That said, the way the internet is going in on her makes me feel compelled to offer a warning: do not ride hard for any celebrity. They will make fools of us all!
TikTok is in overdrive with Blake content right now, the latest is this one about her dismissing an interview question about what she would say to someone who approached her and wanted to tell their own story. It was a bit of a clumsy question but I understand the intent of it. Her answer was not great but I think she was trying to avoid saying she doesn’t want people coming up to her on the street. Most celebrities don’t like being approached in public so I can see her wanting to not encourage that. I don’t even know what a good answer to that would look like because if she said, “I’m looking forward to people telling me their very personal stories about trauma” that would be completely disingenuous.
I’m laughing so hard at this InTouch story about Tom Cruise being upset that Nicole Kidman speaks about him so much and is “poisonous” to their mutual friends. First off, when does Nicole Kidman speak about him? Second, I’m supposed to believe they have mutual friends? Ah yes, Scientology, famous for its encouragement of strong friendships and familial bonds.
This man doesn’t speak to his child, yet we are supposed to believe he keeps a social circle with an ex?
Ariana Madix has been a smash hit as the host of Love Island USA – between her and the excellent casting and production, the show has hit the big time. But there’s a lingering question, at least for me: what happens to the original Love Island USA host, Sarah Hyland? She took time off to do a show and now, well, that’s a conversation. Possibly an awkward conversation.
Speaking of Love Island USA, as Lainey just posted, the cast is in New York and stopped in to see their host on Broadway. I am very, very excited for the reunion because Ariana is in a really unique position of being a cast member at a reunion (several times over) and now running the show.
Is it me or is The Rock a lot quieter than usual right now? Besides his brands, he is not actively promoting a movie. Moana 2 is coming and of course, that will be a Disney blowout. But I do wonder if, after making a point to say he would not endorse a presidential candidate, he will stick to that stance now that the circumstances have changed. Or if he is regretting taking that stance. I think he will stick to it, only because he has nothing to lose by staying quiet.
