Valentine’s Day has always been a performative holiday and social media has only enhanced that. Today there are two kinds of people: the ones who wear red in earnest and the ones who scroll through Instagram muttering “give me a f-cking break.” Sam Smith, who I suspected would be the former, is actually the latter. And I love his saltiness about the whole thing. He cancelled Cupid.

Harper Beckham has a secret Valentine that her brothers are probably teasing her about today.

We know about Shawn Mendes but let me ask you this: is Niall Horan a snack?

Ariana Grande’s fans are arranging a boycott of one song so another song can debut at #1. This sounds exhausting.

y’all are so insane and funny and i love u. nothings funnier than ‘boycott seven rings’..... i can’t lmao. whatever’s meant to be will be, babies 🌫 i ain’t goin nowhere #thankunext https://t.co/g7kdn4E1PD— Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) February 14, 2019

A few days ago, Lainey wrote about movie stars who flirt with television, specifically mentioning George Clooney and Meryl Streep. But there is prestige television, and then there’s everything else, like talent shows. There have been a lot of A-list musicians (like Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus) who have judged singing competitions, but what about the variety shows? I ask because Drew Barrymore (A-list in profile, if not in her projects) is one of the judges on World’s Best, and Gabrielle Union is reportedly joining America’s Got Talent. Does it have any impact on their careers, or does the format make it a safe, lucrative and forgettable gig?

A few more photos from Justin and Hailey Bieber’s Vogue profile have shown up on Instagram and there’s something interesting to note: Karla Welch, Justin’s personal stylist, is credited on the shoot. Hiring a personal stylist for an editorial is like when celebrities have their famous friends interview them for a magazine profile: it offers another layer of control to the subject. How the shoot is styled is storytelling through fashion. By bringing in his own stylist, who got to tell this story?

Dropping the Killing Eve trailer today is very, very smart. Villanelle and Eve are the most compelling partnership on TV right now.

Sometimes they see red
The wait makes them blue
