Hoda Kotb’s exit from The Today Show is such a big deal because she’s genuinely liked by audiences and the people who work behind-the-scenes. This is an anomaly in US morning TV – there have been books and a popular TV show about how cutthroat that environment is.
Hoda has explained that she is leaving because she wants her time back, particularly to spend with her children and mom. And sleeping in! The greatest gift of all.
You is coming back and as someone who really enjoyed the book and parts of the TV show, I could not f-ck with Joe’s London era. The writers are taking it back to the beginning, which is a smart move. Serial killers thrive on patterns.
I watched a couple of episodes of The Simple Life, Paris & Nicole Encore and it was… a bit of a letdown. I don’t know what secret reality TV sauce was missing but it was nostalgia without growth. Part of it is that Nicole Richie won’t share her real life (fair) and Paris Hilton has been sharing her life for years. Focusing on their friendship, which is certainly long, doesn’t have the same frenetic energy as BFFs in their 20s, it’s just two comfortable and content adults. Three parts felt too long.
Lorne Michaels has his favourites and it’s clear, Pete Davidson is a favourite. In SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, Pete said he asked Lorne to fire him and Lorne declined, saying to give it three-four years to settle in. This is some Jedi mind trick because most first-year cast is terrified of being fired by Lorne.
