Celebrity Social Media, July 23, 2024
There’s a new Hailey Bieber profile in W Magazine and my guess is this is her one big “pregnancy profile” before she goes quiet.
It’s an interesting read because beyond the stuff we know about her fashion influence and her building of Rhode, she talks about going through therapy. The platitude about social media is to have a thick skin, to shake it off, to not let the haters get you down. But as Hailey says – it hurts and years on, it doesn’t hurt her any less. And then there are the quotes about not being super close to her family now: this is so out of the celebrity narrative – “family is everything, my mom is my best friend” is what we hear most often. She says she’s independent and has to create her own bubble of people. It’s not a positive and it’s not a negative, it’s just the way it is.
As Lainey and I wait for the Love Island USA reunion, the contestants are acclimating to the real world. Which means lots of social media love and more social media hate. One islander has had nudes leaked and this such gross, egregious behavior. It is wild how quickly fandoms can ruin a show with behavior like this. Who would share this on social media?! And in many parts of the world, leaking nudes isn’t just unethical, it’s illegal.
Love Island has a really terrible history with mental health and I hope the production team is as good with behind-the-scenes support as they are with creating entertainment.
Forget the Erewhon celebrity smoothie, Adele has her own Haribo pack.
There’s an online rumour that Kim Cattrall is filming extensively for And Just Like That… but will not be sharing scenes with any of her former castmates and while it’s an entertaining idea, I don’t know if I buy it. Kim’s issue wasn’t just with SJP but also Michael Patrick King and it would be much harder to work around him.
Cole Escola is THEE moment as their show Oh Mary! moves from off-Broadway to Broadway. And what is more Broadway than Patti LuPone helping with promo? We know she’s a legend, she knows she’s a legend, and for her to show up certainly says something about how much she cares about this show’s success. The theatre!
