Halsey took to Tumblr to air out her feelings and this line is getting a lot of traction: “My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet.” She goes on to say that of course it is not all of her fans, but to her it feels like the minority has grown to a majority. And I think what Halsey is experiencing is not rare.

As a longtime social media observer (but very infrequent user), I have a theory: most of the non-shouty people have been pushed off of social media. What’s left is the fringes: angry fandoms and divisive political and cultural accounts. It’s very, very loud and overwhelming and many people would rather not engage – who can blame them? Who wants to comment “I love this new single” and open themselves up to whatever the issue-of-the-day is on social media, not to mention the other fandoms who are, for whatever reason, always mad at other artists. Social media is way beyond divisive, it is a knock-down, drag-out fight every single day. Only certain personality types have the stomach for it.

A perfect example of the cycle is Hailey Bieber’s baby shower. The top comments I see are awful, sh-tty things to say to anyone. Those comments are at the top not only because they are liked, but because other people engaged with it.

Ironically, by trying to defend Hailey, the meanest comments are amplified. Instagram gets their engagement numbers, so there’s very little incentive for them to stop it.

I know there’s too much TV and what else can we be expected to pencil in but Cate Blanchett directed by Alfonso Curon? As the kids say, and Deadpool too, let’s f-cking go. And it might be one of the last A++ list prestige projects as Apple TV looks to curb their spending

OK this is interesting – Rebel Wilson is being sued for defamation by three producers of The Deb for remarks she made on social media. The lawsuit details are here – it’s pretty layered with a lot of accusations on both sides. But clearly she’s not looking to go away quietly – she posted this on her stories. Len Blavatnik is a Russian billionaire and majority owner of Warner Music and also a producer on the film, though he’s not directly named in the lawsuit (so far).
