Hacks gave us a quick preview and personally? I don’t even need it. This show doesn’t have to try to keep my attention, I am fully seated and ready when they are.

Lainey has been covering the “what if?” aspect of the other Bennifer and the general uptick in attention has consequences. I saw a tabloid run photos of Jennifer Garner’s boyfriend and his ex-wife, presumably at a drop-off or pick-up for their kids. John Miller is not famous, his ex is not famous. They should not be photographed at their home or with their kids because of a rumour based on Ben Affleck touching Jennifer Garner’s waist. I can imagine this would be at minimum annoying and at worse distressing, to have paparazzi parked outside of your house because of your ex-husband’s girlfriend. Not that it’s Jennifer Garner’s fault or even Ben’s, but it is their life. This kind of pressure can sink a relationship.

Landman has been renewed for a second season, no surprise there. As I mentioned, I wonder how that plays now with Demi Moore’s schedule as clearly she is expected to have a bigger part in the story but with the Oscar run, her dance card is probably quite full. I like Demi and I like Billy Bob Thornton and I like Jon Hamm but the only way to watch a Taylor Sheridan show, any Taylor Sheridan show, is as a comedy.

Another ill-advised fit for Blake Lively (although, no one is advising her. Have you heard? She styles herself). I think it’s the tailoring and the constrictive white shirt, there’s no room for the look to breathe. Lots of fabric.

What’s also interesting is that Blake Brown Beauty has not used any shots of her hair to promote the brand. For a celebrity product line, these kinds of appearances are a major marketing push, it’s basically free press and exposure for them to capitalize on. The social media posts are really limping. Behind the scenes, there is certainly a scramble to adjust the marketing plan in a way that pivots away from its most valuable asset, at least for now.

On the business side, Ryan Reynolds and his partners have bought Maximum Effort’s marketing branch back from advertising platform MNTN, with rumours swirling that MNTN wanted to offload it as it files to IPO. The official statement from Ryan’s team is that this was always part of a larger plan and specifically built into the contract, but no one can be normal about anything with Ryan or Blake right now so of course conspiracy theories abound.

Kiefer Sutherland in a Christmas movie? You know what that calls for.
