Of course Melissa McCarthy is taking Barbra Streisand’s comment as a compliment. I’m sure she and her friends killed themselves laughing about it.
Lainey mentioned Shrinking the other day, which made me think of Shrinking. And here it is! Jessica Williams has a really great wardrobe on this show.
There’s a rumour that Chloe Grace Moretz and Kate Harrison are engaged and honestly, the Disney visit kind of tracks with this. It looks very celebratory.
Sarah wrote about the reporting on The Rock this morning and I am eating it up with a spoon! This is an entire meal, I am savouring it. Because haven’t we been talking about Dwayne Johnson’s off vibes for a minute? It tracks. The only thing that surprises me is the tardiness, because the capital M, capital S Movie Stars take their time on set seriously. They take their roles as leaders very seriously. Look at Tom Cruise. Famously professional to the point of being robotic. But there are less extreme examples: Hugh Jackman is a massive movie star, a real pro. Samuel L. Jackson is prolific, you never hear a bad word about him. Charlize Theron famously butted heads with Tom Hardy for being late and dickish when making Mad Max: Fury Road.
What no one wants to tell The Rock is what women have been talking about for decades: he can’t have it all. In his career he’s trying to do everything, from a traveling nostalgia act (wrestling) to movies to TV to product lines (like his tequila) while dilly dallying in country music and politics. There is such thing as hustling too hard. Not only does it affect the quality of the work, it’s impossible to sustain that level of being “on”. And Sarah, thank you for teaching me that Red Notice and Red One are two different movies.
What’s also interesting about The Rock is that he, like many movie stars, has some consistent coworkers. Like Emily Blunt and Kevin Hart. I know they would never dish but Kevin is also someone who is busy with a “hustle harder” mindset. Emily strikes me as someone professional. And I’m wondering now if The Rock will launch a defense of himself.
Katy Perry cut her hair, it’s the era of the lob! Looks really, really great on her.
It’s strange to me that Michael Richards is described as “reclusive” when he was on Curb Your Enthusiasm with the entire Seinfeld cast. He also has a memoir coming out. I don’t think a septuagenarian from a classic sitcom is exactly a target for the attention economy. Anyway it's not like Michael Richards has social media so here is Seinfeld with Bill Burr. About Bill: his wife Nia made an appearance on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and I would love to see more. I don’t think that’s their scene but it would be fun as a viewer.
