“Separating the art from the artist” is one enduring debate that I don’t think will ever get dropped, or should ever get dropped, because it’s such an interesting interrogation of the morals around creating and engaging with art. But what I’ve been thinking about lately is not the art and the artist, but the artist and the side hustle. I’m finding it increasingly hard to separate the two.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that the Your Friends & Neighbors voice over sounds like a car commercial. And that’s mild – what about all of the crypto ads and EFTs? Now there’s those odd gaming ads that pop up and are so weird. I admit my first instinct when I saw Ryan Reynolds for Tim Hortons was an immediate eyeroll. I know he’s a marketing genius hustler but this, to me, is the Tina Fey Rule. When someone crosses a line, you know when you see it. And that line is different for everyone.

You can be sure that the Met Gala is due for at least one bit of drama (the Solange elevator slap turned 10 this year!) and right now, it’s video of Doechii leaving her hotel with her assistants. A lot of people are taking umbrage with the way she spoke to her staff. (Side note: isn’t it crazy how poor TikTok video quality is? It’s like we’ve gone back to using flip phones! I’m OK with that, not everything needs to be in high definition.)

Naomi Campbell wants everyone to know she WAS invited to the Met Gala but had a previous engagement. But that doesn’t mean she WASN’T invited. Naomi, who has been to multiple Met Galas, was DEFINITELY invited.

The Sun published and then removed a story that she was not invited. They disappeared it. And the thing is, she has actually skipped the Met Gala in previous years so this statement had the Streisand Effect.

I want the meeting minutes for the marketing strategy for this book. Who is the target audience? Who is buying it? Can you imagine what the ghostwriter went through? There’s no Hilaria Baldwin-to-English translator on Google. Yet.

Blake Shelton said working with Post Malone has reignited his spark and he’s back to making music. He’s one of many artists across genres, from Beyoncé to Taylor Swift to Justin Bieber to Doja Cat, who have worked with Post Malone. It’s very important for societal harmony to have artist-producers like Postie and Bruno Mars because they both specifically fulfill our need for radio-friendly hits that we can collectively belt out in the car.
