PROGRAMMING NOTE before we get to Céline – we are heading into the Labour Day long weekend early so we are dark tomorrow and on Monday for Labour Day and returning at full strength on Tuesday heading into TIFF and then the Emmys the following week. After this weekend, it’s a sprint and a marathon. Hoping that you also get some rest as we get into the final stretch of the year… because that’s kinda what it is after the first weekend of September. Where did the time go?

In Céline’s case, she’s taking it back. She will kick off her Paris residency next Saturday and, as we’ve seen, has been rehearsing all week. Today will reportedly be her first time rehearsing on stage. But not before the usual hotel departure ceremony. Look at her. She loves it. She is fueled by it, she is grateful for it, she’s living up to it. Céline Dion is so good at receiving love – and since she hasn’t done this in so long, she has talked about how much she appreciates it. Which, really, is why she takes the time for these moments when she’s on her way out.

What else happened today…

Amelia Dimoldenberg announced the end of Chicken Shop Date. There will be a few shows left, featuring “eclectic guests”, but not Beyoncé, although she did receive a formal response …which is a win in and of itself. Amelia is huge on YouTube, and like so many successful creators on YouTube, she has leveraged her popularity on that platform into legacy spaces, like the red carpet at the Oscars. There are other projects that she is now putting her energy into, and it’s a good move for her, to chase the next chapter in her career. I like the timing of this decision, because Chicken Shop Date has become a promotional stop and sooner or later, had she continued, the charm of the concept would start to fade. (Pajiba)

Jodie Comer has been a bit quiet for a couple of years, right? I like that she’s back, this time in a movie with Hugh Jackman but she has several projects in post or in development. Love this shirt dress on her. (Go Fug Yourself)

Justin Trudeau is the “love of my life”, according to Katy Perry. I not only believe that she believes it, I believe that they believe that they believe in believing in each other. If that makes sense to you, then you get them and why they are good for gossip. If that doesn’t make sense to you, same idea applies. (Celebitchy)

Gloria Steinem died yesterday and Rebecca Traister’s piece about Gloria’s advocacy is the one I bookmarked first to read on my commute home. I LOVE Rebecca’s work. I often re-read passages from her book Good and Mad: The Revolutionary Power of Women's Anger. Without Gloria’s work, Rebecca’s may not have been possible. That is the power of the pioneer – they explore ideas, they build movements, and they open a road for others to continue the effort. (The Cut)
