Céline is Paris

Of course I know Céline Dion isn’t Paris, officially, but for the last several weeks, she’s become the symbol of the city – and I don’t think the city would object to this. Céline has brought so many people to Paris for her residency. She has brought music to the streets and joy to the block. Her exuberance is infectious and undeniable, and we need it more than ever.

Last night Céline was the best surprise at the L’Oréal Paris show to kick off Paris Fashion Week, singing “I’m Alive” at the end before all the brand ambassadors came out for the final walk down the runway. I’m including video of the full performance because why wouldn’t we need over six minutes of Céline, with the Eiffel Tower behind her, singing for life and love, looking great and sounding better?

Here’s Viola Davis, also looking incredible, in liquid metal and the biggest smile. This hair is such a great length on her, and the texture is perfect.

Speaking of hair, though – Jane Fonda in red, how I imagine Breathless Mahoney if she were allowed to age.

And Her Majesty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The “face card never declines” expression could have been invented for her.

All of them seemed so moved by Céline at the end, and who couldn’t understand this? If there was ever a person who could humanise the spirit of a corporate brand motto, it would be her.
