It’s been two days since we’ve talked about Charles Melton here. Let’s fix that. The cast of May December was in London last night to promote the film, which is picking up some awards momentum with two New York Film Critics Circle wins announced last week for screenplay and Best Supporting Actor. That would be Charles, of course, as his chances for an Oscar nomination look to be getting better and better.

I’m a broken record but, seriously, if you’ve seen the film (and it’s streaming now on Netflix), you cannot deny that it’s an incredible performance, especially considering how quickly they shot the film (like 25 days or something) and with no rehearsal time. And here he is, practically stealing the movie from not one but TWO Oscar winners.

Charles just made Variety’s list of 10 Actors to Watch For which feels a little… late? I mean if he’s in the Oscar conversation, I feel like we’re already watching him. He’s being mentioned in the same category as Robert De Niro, Robert Downey Jr, Ryan Gosling, Mark Ruffalo and more. It’s a huge deal. And I’m so curious to see what it’s going to be like if he’s invited to any of the award season roundtables, how he’ll hold his own with so many of his heroes.

Here he is with Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, all of them coordinated in black, on the red carpet. Obviously he’ll have the full support of these two women as we get deeper in the campaign, and that’s not insignificant. They have their connections, and they’ll work those connections for as many nominations as possible. Right now, May December’s best bet for a nomination is Charles. Golden Globe nominations are coming on Monday. Will his name be called?
