Cyndi Lauper was honored with a hand and footprint ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theater yesterday. Bebe Rexha and Cher turned up to support her. Iconic friendship!

Cher and Cyndi have been turning up for each other for decades, including Cyndi singing for Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2018.

“I lied!” I love them so much. I hope this is where Taylor Swift and Beyoncé end up, too, that despite decades of the media trying to start sh-t between them, they’ll keep turning up for each other at milestone moments. I’m not saying they need to be super best friends or anything, but it’s nice when successful ladies don’t fall into the “there can be only one” trap.

Cyndi has announced a farewell tour to begin in Montreal in October and end in Chicago in December. The tickets are being sold through Ticketmaster/LiveNation, which as we and Eddie Vedder all know is a screaming nightmare, but I’m going to try to get some, anyway. I love Cyndi, and I’ve never seen her live. I saw Pat Benatar in 2019 and she was awesome. I’m working on an Eighties pop girly concert bucket list, after Prince and David Bowie died in 2016, I vowed not to miss my icons when they tour, you never know when it might be the last show. Except this time, Cyndi literally told us it’s the last show.

There is also a documentary highlighting Cyndi’s life of music and activism called Let The Canary Sing. It just hit Paramount+ and on demand platforms this week. It looks great. If this is Cyndi’s farewell year, she’s going out with all the fanfare she deserves.
