Sarah recently mentioned that she was starting to get sick of literal theme dressing on red carpets. I see where she’s coming from, as she was referring in that post to Wicked and whether or not Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande would continue to show up in green and pink respectively for the entire duration of the press tour – and remember it’s TWO films. But I also don’t want theme dressing at premieres to stop because, first of all, Zendaya, and second… it can be hilarious. Especially on Chris Pine.

Chris’s film, which he wrote and directed, is called Poolman; he is the poolman. So he rocked up to the premiere in a poolman’s truck looking like, well, a poolman. He’s looked like this for a while now but the fit is… well… him AND his character.

So this is comfort and convenience but it’s also marketing. I mean I just turned his clothes into a story for the site here and I honestly don’t know that I would have done the same if he just showed up on the carpet wearing what Bradley Cooper and Leonardo DiCaprio would wear, you know?

But also it’s the energy of it. He looks like he’s having a great time – which he well should since he’s the writer and director and the star, there’s no sense in being a f-cking bummer about it. And it’s nice to see that some of his friends were there to support him who aren’t in the film. Like John Cho, making it a Star Trek reunion. Nobody’s complaining about a John Cho sighting! His hair alone is a gift!

As for Chris and his shorts and those cheesy sunglasses and the flower on his jacket – that would actually work for the Met Gala, lol. It’s a secret garden theme this year so, technically, he could show up like this on Anna Wintour’s famed red carpet and he wouldn’t be wrong, while raising awareness about his movie, although his attendance is unlikely. I don’t think Chris Pine has been to the Met Gala in over a decade. But the Poolman should go to the Met Gala, don’t you want to see it?
