I've been realizing that maybe I haven't given Claire enough credit for never boring me, fashion wise. In the last few years she's consistently turned up in things that are interesting, often shiny in unpredictable ways, or in colours a lot of people stay away from. I need to start paying more attention, I think.
Look at this hilarious confection. It's exactly the right time to wear it. If she'd worn it when she was actually nominated for something, she would be eviscerated. But she's just going to be one of the crowd tonight - or an actress intent on campaigning for a part, or being seen a certain way. She can wear this dress, toss it all artsy-Anthropologie on the bedroom floor when she gets home, photograph it with Instagram, and congratulate herself on a job well done.
