Dear Gossips,

The current #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 is “Golden” from Kpop Demon Hunters, topping the chart for the 8th time. This will change next week because Taylor Swift will likely occupy the first 12 spots on the chart with the release of The Life of a Showgirl but it is undeniable that “Golden” is one of the biggest hits of the year, if not the biggest hit of the year.

“Golden” is co-written by Ejae and she performs the track with Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami; all three were on The Tonight Show on Monday and if you were wondering whether or not Ejae could hit those high notes live…

No problem. The song might actually sound even better live, with Ejae’s low tone and total control when she takes it to a higher register. I can’t wait to see them do this at the Oscars! They better be invited to do this at the Oscars!

But not only the Oscars…?

The Grammy nominations will be announced on November 7th. “Golden” has been submitted in multiple categories, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Should “Golden” contend for Record of the Year, it would be the first K-pop song to be nominated in the category. Given that “Golden” is a song from a movie though, if the stars align or, more appropriately, if the Honmoon is sealed, “Golden” could be in some exclusive company. To top the Billboard Hot 100 and win a Grammy for Record of the Year and Best Original Song at the Oscars? It’s basically a unicorn event. The most famous song to do it is “My Heart Will Go On”.

Billie Eilish and Finneas’s “What Was I Made For” from the Barbie soundtrack won both the Grammy and the Oscar a couple of years ago but never hit the top spot on the Hot 100.

It’s early. A lot of things have to fall into place for “Golden”. But these are the possibilities. And, well, it’s not like this is an obscure song. Might have started that way but Kpop Demon Hunters is now the most-watched movie of all time on Netflix. This is mainstream, mainstream enough for the Recording Academy and the Oscar Academy. Let’s f-cking go…up, up, up, it’s our moment.

Here are Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as Huntr/x with their first full live performance of “Golden” on The Tonight Show and I f-cking looooove how they’re styled like Rumi, Mira, and Zoey which pretty much also matches their own personal style too.

This is the magic come to life!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
