Miley: BASS PERSUADES but not Coachella
As MC has mentioned several times recently, Miley Cyrus, now just Miley, is preparing for the release of her next album on September 18. We’ve known about the new music for a couple of weeks now, and she’s with a new label after her last album, Something Beautiful, did not deliver a massive hit – although to be fair, “Flowers” was so enormous for her that I’m not sure anything in that time would have met those expectations.
Still, the anticipation is high for whatever Miley’s doing next. And yesterday she announced the title of the new record, BASS PERSUADES.
My tenth studio album, BASS PERSUADES, is yours September 18th.

Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong.
Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title… pic.twitter.com/ujagy2jsA7
As you can see from her tweet, BASS PERSUADES is in all caps. Not sure if that’s actually how it will be styled when the album comes out and we see the cover but… is it just me or is anyone else exhausted by the no caps, all lower case, all caps, different cases thing that these artists have been doing? And it’s never consistent either across media. So, here, for now, I guess we’ll refer to BASS PERSUADES in the loudest way possible until it’s indicated otherwise.
In other Miley news, or no news, there was speculation that with the new album what her performance schedule might be. Yesterday, Hits Daily Double reported on the artists that Coachella is chasing for their 2027 lineup. Dua Lipa is rumoured to be one of the headliners, and she’s been seen in and out of the studio so it does seem likely that new music is coming and that she’ll be on the road performing it, including on the festival circuit. Tame Impala was also mentioned – which makes sense since the “Dracula” remix with Jennie has been such a monster hit, followed by “Loser” from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day soundtrack.
Miley, however, supposedly turned down Coachella and that tracks too. She has said so many times that she’s uncomfortable with touring and the kind of large scale performances that are typically involved for an artist at her level. Apparently the promoters are now pursuing BTS, SZA, Oasis, and Radiohead, with SZA the most likely candidate.
As for Miley, it hasn’t just been the Coachella rumour. For months she’s been considered a heavy favourite frontrunner to headline the Super Bowl next year – even before we knew that this new album was imminent. Miley has the catalogue and she has the recognition, if she wants to do it, there is no way she wouldn’t be asked.
The argument against of course is that the Super Bowl is perhaps even more pressure than Coachella. Sure but the argument for is that there’s an even bigger payoff. There’s a direct line between the Super Bowl in terms of increasing music sales for an artist. Plus it’s only 14 minutes for the performance. And you could say that doing one halftime show reaches an even wider audience than both a festival and a tour. Is it possible that Miley turned down Coachella because the Super Bowl is really in play?
What is also possibly in play is Saturday Night Live. They love Miley at SNL, she’s always great on SNL. And the season premiere is happening shortly after she drops the album. I won’t be surprised if she’s part of the host and musical guest lineup when the show premieres for season 52, or even double duty.
