Did Rihanna foretell that A$AP Rocky would become Chanel's latest ambassador?

Rihanna is back in New York, photographed after dinner with friends last night. It’s been two and a half months since RiRi gave birth to daughter Rocki and in that time, she and A$AP Rocky have been… well… everywhere. From LA to NYC to Paris and that’s only where they’ve been papped, multiple times.

Rihanna was recently photographed at the passport office with the baby, perhaps she’ll be taking her youngest home to Barbados sometime soon. She just posted about Barbados on Instagram last night.

As for why she’s in New York, my guess is Rocky and Chanel. You’ll recall, last month Rocky was seen in NYC filming a Chanel ad with Margaret Qualley. The short film was just released yesterday ahead of the Chanel Métiers d’Art presentation tomorrow night in NYC. This will be Mathieu Blazy’s first Métiers d’Art collection since being appointed the new creative director of the house. And seeing how it went in October when he showed his debut ready-to-wear collection, expectations are very high.

The film was directed by acclaimed director Michel Gondry – and I know you know him because Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This piece, however, is much more whimsical, even goofy, at least by Chanel standards. And I’m kinda into it, the tone I mean, that this is the new Chanel energy. The clothes are seriously beautiful but they’re not taking themselves too seriously. The way Margaret reacts at the end after the proposal is hilarious and silly, the opposite of aloof, but also still … chic?

Will be curious to see how this vibes with the runway tomorrow. As for Rocky, it’s now official, even though it was widely assumed when he was shooting the film – he’s just been announced as Chanel’s latest ambassador. Did Rihanna foretell this? She wore custom Chanel to the Smurfs premiere back in the summer in Brussels.

Will she join Rocky at the show tomorrow? It’s been a minute since we’ve seen her at a Chanel show.

And there’s also Kristen Stewart. KStew was at a screening of her film The Chronology of Water in New York last night. She’s a longtime ambassador of the house, but she wasn’t at Mathiew Blazy’s premiere during Paris Fashion Week in October. I can’t wait to see what she looks like in new Chanel.
