Jessica Simpson: social and ring watch

Here’s Jessica Simpson today at LAX wearing a very Jessica Simpson outfit. The animal print and the boots – she’s been in a version of this look for at least 15 years, and it has a bit of an Anna Wintour effect where this could be 2024 or 2014 or even 2004. 

What’s notable here to the paps taking her picture, though, is not the fit but the ring, or at least the absence of it. Because for months now there’s been speculation that Jessica and Eric Johnson might not be together anymore. He’s been missing from her socials for a while – she didn’t post anything about him for his birthday in August and he didn’t show up on her post about her kids starting a new school year either.

Eric used to travel with Jessica on her work trips, that hasn’t been happening either. And, of course, there’s the whole ring situation which isn’t always reliable, some people just don’t wear their big ass engagement diamonds all day every day. But in combination with his absence, the fact that we haven’t seen him with her in a looooong minute, and the fact that for sure she’s aware of what people have been asking in the comments….could there be something here? 

For what it’s worth, this is just the latest cycle of rumouring about Jessica and Eric. It was happening late last year until Valentine’s Day when they went out for dinner together. So it could just be that Eric wants to maintain a lower profile and this is their new normal. It’s possible that five years from now, if we happen to get a glimpse of a still-together Jessica and Eric, we’ll have transitioned into not wondering about their status but talking about the sighting as a “rare” one, because they’ll have, by then, established that they don’t want to be out here all the time assuring people just for the sake of assuring them when what counts is what happens off social media. That’s how Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes make it work. Is it the same with Jessica Simpson?
