Constance Wu is outside
A couple weeks ago we learned that, finally, eight years after Crazy Rich Asians was released, the sequel is finally coming…in the form of a TV series for HBO. Constance Wu, the star of CRA, is now talking about it, calling the series script “very funny”, and that Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, is also acting as showrunner for the sequel series. So, Adele Lim held her ground and demanded what she’s worth after writing a film that became a monster hit and she finally got her bag AND creative control. Most excellent.
Constance was on The Today Show today, technically promoting season two of The Terminal List starring Chris Pratt (bleak, but get paid Constance). Is it just me, or does she seem more excited about CRA than The Terminal List?
I’m not imagining that, right? She kind of struggles to talk about The Terminal List, and then visibly brightens when CRA comes up. That’s not a judgment, I really don’t know how actors maintain enthusiasm for projects they’re not passionate about. I mean, I know they’re actors and they can just act like they’re enthused, but when you’re on a press run and you’re doing dozens if not hundreds of interviews, answering the same questions, it has to get exhausting.
If you haven’t read Constance’s memoir, Making a Scene, I really recommend it. It’s a rare celebrity memoir where the celebrity actually wrestles with some significant issues and happenings in her past. I’m always rooting for Constance Wu, especially since she was rather unfairly lambasted for expressing annoyance when Fresh Off the Boat was renewed, and then it was later revealed one of the producers was sexually harassing her. Of course she didn’t enjoy that job and wanted to move on, never mind she was seeing better offers after the success of CRA. Anyway, I’m glad to see Constance Wu back in the spotlight.
What else happened today…
The couple that meal plans together, stays together. Sort of. (Popsugar)
The Latin Billboard Awards carpet parade was amazing. (Go Fug Yourself)
Thomas Markle, father of Meghan Sussex, was turned into authorities after his son, Thomas Markle, Jr., found “child sex images” in Markle Sr.’s home in the Philippines. Ugh, gross, terrible. Samantha Markle, Meghan’s half-sister who is constantly torturing her in the press, is denying the charges, but the accusations are, um, extensive. Like multiple countries, tens of thousands of images extensive. Turns out, Duchess Meghan had a reason to cut off her father beyond the way he used her to get paid himself.
There are now questions about who knew what when, how this fits into the timeline of Markle missing Meghan’s wedding in 2018, and that letter she wrote him which was leaked to the Daily Mail. Apparently back in 2018, though it’s unclear if it was before or after the wedding, the Metropolitan Police were sent a letter (from who?) warning about Markle. It was shared with Meghan then, which again, puts her no-contact stance into a new light.
Meghan has released a statement, and I truly feel for her. Her biological family is wretched, her in-laws are awful, she’s trying to build a safe and happy life for her family with basically no extended support (they’re rich, blah blah, that isn’t proof against the empty spaces left by a sh-tty family). Except for her mother, Doria Ragland. Protect Doria at all costs. (Celebitchy)
A breakdown of the egg scene in You Can See Everything. Every single facet of that film is some level of bizarre. I saw someone online ask for Werner Herzog’s review and truly, he’s the only person who might be able to grapple with the bonkers trifecta of Elizabeth Holmes, Billy Evans, and Nathan Fielder.
