The slow-moving pop culture car crash we can’t look away from is the Beckham-Peltz family drama. Maria mentioned a round of holiday messiness in which Brooklyn Peltz Beckham unfollowed and/or blocked his family (according to Cruz Beckham, it was a family-wide block). His wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, also does not follow the Beckhams. It’s not exactly surprising at this point, as Beckham-Peltz relations deteriorated throughout last year. Blocking his family on social media just seems like the culmination of all that drama. At least it’s providing some laughs on Brooklyn’s otherwise dead boring Instagram feed. This is from a video about lobster mac’n’cheese:

Maria aptly pointed out about Nicola that “[r]ich people refuse to understand this one simple thing: being rich does not make you influential and cool”. But then I was skimming Brooklyn’s Insta for this post and I had a lightbulb moment that also explains Nicola Peltz Beckham: her birthday is in January.

My birthday is two days after Christmas, so I understand what it’s like to grow up with people sort of glossing over your birthday. I never had a chance to become the kind of person who celebrates a birthday week because everyone just rolls my birthday up with Christmas. But you know what? At least people know when my birthday is! People do not give a F-CK about birthdays in January. Everyone’s too burnt-out post-holiday and returning to school/work.

Nicola’s family and money gives her a lot of privilege in life, but nothing can make people care about a January birthday (sorry to all my fellow Capricorns). The minute I saw Brooklyn wishing Nicola a happy January birthday, I was like—it all makes sense now. She’s a toxic combination of January baby and rich. As Maria said, rich people often struggle to accept that regular people don’t see them as cool just because they’re rich (see also: Elon Musk), and on top of that, she’s got bitter birthday syndrome. No wonder she’s supposedly still bent out of shape about her wedding. It had to carry the weight of all her birthdays, too!

Here's Brooklyn picking Nicola up in Los Angeles yesterday.
