Intro for April 8, 2025
Dear Gossips,
When Game of Thrones was the biggest show on television, one of the fun debates for fans of the show was whether you’d want a direwolf or a dragon. I was always on the side of the direwolf, because I live with dogs, and Ghost was such a good boy – and a badass. When Ghost wakes up just before Jon, sensing that life has returned to his bestie, I cried LOL. And at the end of the series, when Jon comes back to Castle Black and my sweet baby is missing an ear and trots up to greet him, just thinking about it f-cks me up.
But, like, never thought it could actually happen…?
I’m sure you’ve heard that, um, dire wolves are back. As two words, apparently, and not the one word in George RR Martin’s books.
Not here to debate the ethics of this, I’m just here to talk about some of the pop culture crossover. Because not only is Game of Thrones trending but also, of course, Jurassic. And the people who run the Jurassic social media accounts posted an excellent tweet.

I mean, the timing could not be better. Dire wolves are unextincted and Jurassic World is coming out in less than three months, expected to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, if not the biggest. Will this news add to the viewing experience? Sarah has said that as much as they try, and as impressive and more improved as the CGI gets in the movies, nothing can compare to watching Jurassic Park for the first time, the anticipation of seeing the dinosaurs, the heartpounding excitement of the sound and the visuals combining together…
But maybe now that they’re telling us they can revive creatures that have been gone for thousands of years, does that make for a new thrill? I’m not sure I want a dire wolf any more, now that it’s not theoretical. I’ll stick with my beagles who could never rescue me from any kind of danger, and are only loyal when there’s not food around. But at least their behaviour is thoroughly predictable.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
