Back to back premiere nights for Amanda Seyfried which, in her case, only helps her Oscar campaign. Amanda is contending for a best actress nomination for her work in The Testament of Ann Lee but also co-stars in The Housemaid, one of the most popular titles on BookTok. This movie is hoping to attract anyone who doesn’t care about Avatar (me) at the holiday box office and as I’ve noted a few times already, everyone I know who’s seen The Housemaid says it’s a scream, in the best campy way.

For Sydney Sweeney, the original plan was also to have The Housemaid be a boost to her Oscar chances for Christy. She’s still a contender, it’s not over yet, but Amanda’s carrying a lot more hype than she is, and if anything now, she might need The Housemaid to reverse her trend of box office flops. That’s not what the strategy looked like three months ago coming out of TIFF. The LA Times did invite her to be part of their The Envelope roundtable series so that might help but, again, there are contenders who are going into the voting period with a lot more buzz. Right now the priority should be to secure a much-needed box office win to close out the year and start a new one.

Sydney wore white and tight for the red carpet last night and, well, it’s not a stretch for her – in fact, just two weeks ago she was already in white and tight for The Housemaid in New York.

Maybe this is intentional? To wear two white and tight long gowns to promote this movie? It’s just not very interesting, fashion-wise. I’m more interested in her hair and whether or not she has hair regret.

Sydney cut her hair about six weeks ago, the end of October, to sit just at the shoulders, in a bob. Haven’t seen her really commit to it this length though. For the last two carpets she’s worn extensions so that it’s as long as it was before she cut it. Earlier today I posted about Lily Collins whose hair has been in a chin-length bob for a while now and she really sticks to it, no matter what the occasion, so much that it’s kinda become her current image. I don’t buy that Sydney’s as into her shorter hair as Lily, that she’ll maintain it at the shoulder indefinitely. I feel like it was a try, cut, and immediate grow. And if that’s the case, no judgement. This is why I don’t cut my hair and have worn it f-ckass long for so long. Because I know I’d enjoy a bob for all of a week and then the regret would sink in and I’d feel like I’d lost versatility – I can smell it on Sydney from the photos.
