Intro for January 12, 2026
Dear Gossips,
Oscar nominations voting begins today and while the Globes don’t typically line up with Oscar winners, where they can have an influence is who gets nominated. More on this throughout the day in our Globes coverage but with that in mind, since it’s our post-Golden Globes package, let’s start the day… well… “Golden”. Kpop Demon Hunters won two Globes last night: Best Animated Motion Picture – congratulations to Canadian Maggie Kang, the mother of Huntr/x – and Best Original Song.
For EJAE in particular, it was an opportunity to show Academy voters what a possible acceptance speech might look like should “Golden” actually win the Oscar. And as Sarah noted during our live chat at The Squawk last night, the idea that “rejection is redirection” would play very well with actors and writers and other creatives in the industry because that’s the common denominator.
EJAE was speaking about her experience as a Kpop trainee, she spent a decade trying to be an idol and obviously didn’t fit into what Kpop producers were looking for at the time. EJAE has said that her vocal tone was atypical, deeper than what is commonly heard in Kpop girl groups; she’s also taller than the average height of an idol, perhaps this was an issue with choreography and dance formations. So she had to reset her ambitions, redirect her goals, as she explained last night on stage at the Globes…and look where we are now…
“Golden” is the frontrunner in the Best Original Song race. Of course a win is not assured, it never is. But the popularity of the song is undeniable. Everyone in Hollywood knows it, has heard it, like hundreds of times, if not more, and now everyone has heard EJAE’s story behind it. The speech last night should have played well with the people filling in those ballots. Here she is getting her trophy engraved.

As for the fashion…
First of all, even though the Globes put on a bumpy show last night, what they did get right was the new red carpet design, adding a double staircase to the arrivals area to imitate the Met Gala. It’s a great idea, the photos from the steps are so much better than Globes in previous years, and for Huntr/x, it may have been a preview of what we might see from them should they be invited to the actual Met Gala in a few months.
After all, EJAE is a big enough deal now that she wore custom Dior, by Jonathan Anderson. And it’s not like Jonathan Anderson designs for just anyone.
Rei Ami was stunning in a black lace Valdrin Sahiti dress with exaggerated hips, black tentacles coming out of the straps, and the most perfect straight ponytail…
…and clearly Adam Sandler is a fan.
My favourite look, though, out of all the Huntr/x girls, is Audrey Nuna’s, OMGGGGG. This is Thom Browne and this is also SO Audrey. She has never, in all these months, at all these appearances, ever dialed down her taste, succumbed to an outfit that isn’t on her frequency just to play it safe. And it’s not just the clothing but also the hair, the makeup, that dark lip – this, for me, is one for the books. One of the most iconic Golden Globe red carpet debuts of all time.
